RSHM at the Jubilee of Consecrated Life

Posted October 14, 2025

The Jubilee of Consecrated Life, organized by the Dicastery for Evangelization and the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, took place from October 8 to 12, 2025, in Rome. More than 16.000 consecrated men and women from nearly a hundred different countries journeyed as Pilgrims of Hope. Some Sisters from the Generalate Community were also present, experiencing a time of Grace and Communion.

On the first day, October 8, the pilgrimages to the Holy Doors and the Prayer Vigil at St. Peter’s Basilica, presided over by Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, were especially significant. In his homily, he presented Mary as the living image of consecration: a force in motion, a womb that generates hope, a presence that shakes immobility, a openness that becomes a step, an encounter, and a light, capable of rekindling peace in places where hope falters.

The highlight of October 9 was the Mass in St. Peter’s Square, presided over by Pope Leo XIV. To the thousands of consecrated persons, including Religious Sisters and Brothers, Monks, Hermits and Contemplatives, members of Secular Institutes and the Ordo Virginum, and new forms of Consecrated Life – the Pope invited all to recall their vocation and to reflect on all that the Lord has done to multiply their talents, increase their faith, and make their charity more generous. To be truly happy, the human being needs – said the Pope – “deep, lasting, and solid experiences of love, and you, through the example of your consecrated life, like the leafy trees sung about in the responsorial Psalm (cf. Ps 1:3), can spread the oxygen of this way of loving throughout the world.”

From October 9 to 11, the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life promoted a series of events for the 4.000 registered pilgrims. There were reflection sessions on themes such as “Commitment to the ‘least’ – Listening to the cry of the poor”; “Universal fraternity – Solidarity”; and “Care and protection of creation – Environmental stewardship.” There were also many moments of prayer, in different languages, at various locations throughout the city. In the Paul VI Hall, several lectures and workshops were held during these days, all focused on hope and peace.

On the morning of the third day of the Jubilee of Consecrated Life, Sister Simona Brambilla, MC, Prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, greeted all participants. In her speech, she offered the image of the yobel, the trumpet which in Jewish tradition announced the beginning of the Jubilee, as a symbol of consecrated life, called to be a living channel of God’s breath. “Peoples, origins, different cultures, different ecclesial experiences, different forms of consecrated life, different charisms,” she said, “we are like many yobels, each with its own unique and unrepeatable sound, but called to play together the symphony of the Jubilee of Hope.”

The highlight of the day was the presence of Pope Leo XIV, who emphasized the spirit of synodality as the essential path for the Church today. He encouraged all consecrated men and women to remain faithful to this journey. “Work,” he said, “to become, day by day, ever more experts in synodality, because it is in this style that the Church recognizes the face of Christ walking with us.” The Pope also urged all consecrated persons to be witnesses of communion, sharing the joy of their vocation, overcoming divisions, and practicing forgiveness.

The Jubilee of Consecrated Life concluded at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, where the consecrated renewed their “yes” to consecration as pilgrims of hope on the path of peace. In her final words to those gathered, Sister Simona Brambilla highlighted Mary as a model of consecrated life: “A consecrated life inspired by Mary becomes a space for a deep re-reading of history, a prophetic gaze on reality embodied by men and women of the Beatitudes who, even in tribulation, already see the invisible.” Finally, she challenged everyone: “So, let us go, brothers and sisters! Let us go, pilgrims of hope on the path of peace, carrying with us the experience we have lived, to keep it in our hearts and share it with those we meet!”
