Novices Profess First Vows

Posted February 3, 2020

On January 25, 2020, 130 years after the death of our Founder, Father Jean Gailhac, four novices made their first profession in the parish of the Immaculate Conception in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Those professed were Daniela de Jesus Santos from Porto Seguro, Brazil, Rhânella Altina Oliveira from Lima Duarte, Brazil, Previladge Rutendo Gunyere from Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, and Aida Ganizane Fombe from Mozambique. Father Paulo of the parish presided at the Eucharist; in attendance were several other priests and deacons, many Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, family, friends and parishioners. A very moving homily given by Father Antonio Carlos was based on a letter of Father Gailhac. Sr. Rosemary Mwagarezano, directress of the SHM Novitiate, presented the novices, and Sr. Maria Aparecida Moreira, General Councilor, accepted their vows. The parish choir and a number of young musicians joined the three first year novices, Naomi, Lesley, and Elizabeth in singing. A simple but delicious lunch prepared by volunteers from the parish followed the ceremony, and everyone enjoyed the time together.
