What is a General Chapter?

Posted March 4, 2019

In July 2019, 44 delegates from RSHM provinces and regions will assemble for the month in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, for our General Chapter, held every six years. Our Constitutions state that “The general chapter is an ecclesial event and a visible sign of our unity. . . . this collegial assembly. . . . sets goals and establishes priorities for the Institute.” The Chapter also elects the Institute leadership team. Our theme for the Chapter is “Called to Continue the Mission of Jesus Christ: firm in faith, vibrant in hope, rooted in love, one in service.” During the weeks of our meeting we will be looking at our organization and ministries to ensure that we are meeting the needs of those we serve and fulfilling our mission “that all may have life.”
