With deep joy, we celebrate the First Profession of Sisters Belinda Nguwa, Ester Viquimane, Flávia Bernardo, Jacinta Mario Azeite, Luyando Simoonga, and Obrity Hachizumanana. The ceremony took place on Saturday, January 24, in Lusaka, Zambia, the city where the Novitiate of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary is located.
The Mass, celebrated by Father Benedict Chanda, was attended by Sister Madalena Manhiça, Institute Councillor; Sister Beatrice Magaya, Zambezi Area Leader; Sister Valéria Erneio, Mozambique Area Leader; Sister Florence Muuka, Formation Directress; and Sisters Evelyn Joyce, Maria Emilia Peliz, and Claudia Monjane, who complete the Novitiate Team.
During the celebration, Sister Madalena Manhiça addressed the newly professed Sisters, recalling the words of our Founder: “May you continue living in the Spirit of Father Jean Gailhac, who told us: Love God with your whole being; love one another as Jesus loves you.”
While holding lighted candles, the Sisters professed their first vows, hearing from Sr. Madalena the words: “I joyfully receive your vows and ask God to help you fully embrace your commitment.”
Following this moment, Sister Previladge Gunyere also renewed her vows in a spirit of joy.
During the ceremony, the missioning of the newly professed Sisters was also announced . With joy, the Sisters received the capulanas, a symbol of African cultural identity and of service.
We give thanks to the Novitiate Team, Sisters Florence Muuka, Evelyn Joyce, Maria Emilia Peliz, and Claudia Monjane, for their dedication to the young women who walk as builders of Life, following our motto: “I came that all may have life, and have it to the full” (Jn 10:10).
By making their first vows, the Sisters complete the Novitiate and enter the Juniorate. “Formation during the period of first commitment aims to help the Sister: identify more closely with Jesus Christ and his mission; deepen her understanding of consecrated life in community; and commit herself to the life and mission of the Institute.” Constitutions 67–70.
May the Lord continue to bless the journey of the newly professed Sisters, strengthening them in fidelity, joy, and love for the mission.
