On the occasion of the 177th Anniversary of the Foundation of the RSHM we greet each of you with deep gratitude and joy. Today we remember with thanksgiving the grace of our beginnings – the birth of our Institute. We honour the courageous faith, generosity and love that shaped our history and continue to animate our mission in the Church and in the world today.
On this foundation day, we remember not just a date, but a story, a charism, a courage – the particular gift of the spirit given to Fr. Jean Gailhac, Mother St. Jean and our first sisters which is alive and responds to the needs of our time.
We give thanks for the charism that has continued to touch many lives and to unfold throughout the different eras – vocations that have responded to God’s call to the life and mission of the RSHM over the years.
Today we are called to live the RSHM charism and mission in a dynamic and profound way. Our General Chapter vision 2025 calls us to “walk together, strengthening bonds of belonging and participation, cooperating with God for the transformation of the world.” Walking together, strengthening bonds of belonging calls us to move beyond mere diversity to fostering connections that ensure everyone feels they are an integral part of the Institute – sharing experiences, mutual support and fostering a sense of togetherness so that no one is left behind.
The Chapter 2025 vision also calls us to unity as we carry out our mission. It is not only doing good works on our own but aligning our actions, thoughts and intentions with God’s Will, relying on divine power to effect change.
We remain united as we celebrate the 177 years of the RSHM charism and continue to share in the life-giving mission of Jesus Christ.
May this Lenten season be a time of grace, healing, and spiritual renewal for each of us. Let us rejoice in the Lord and listen to God with renewed hearts.
From the Institute Leadership Council.
